on the title to order - huge discounts The French Connection [Blu-ray] This powerful multiple Oscar winner should be in every serious cinephile's library, as much as any other this seminal film kickstarted the bronze era of filmmaking when directors were king. William Friedkin crafted a true masterpiece of cinema, a sweeping, dark, sinister as hell concoction with world weary undertones that leave the viewer drained. Gene Hackman's blistering, pork pie hat-wearing Popeye Doyle is an iconic performance that has lost none of its bite in the last 30 years. And, of course, this motion picture has one of the most thrilling car chases in movie history, taking place in the gritty street of a decaying New York City. Wait until you see it in Blu-Ray. Finally, you're able see this film at home as the director intended with this beautifully rendered disc and a high def television. It's easy to see why French Connection won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1971 along with Best Actor in a Leading Role for Gene Hackman, Best Director, and 3 more wins out of a stunning 9 nominations. French Connection 2 [Blu-ray] (1975) A few years later another director, John Frankenheimer, brought Popeye Doyle back for another fine film, one of those sequels that somewhat matches the original. This time our now drug addicted detective is a fish out of water in France attempting to capture that elusive drug kingpin that gave him the slip. Gene Hackman and Fernando Rey reprised their roles from the first film. Both of these films have a grainy picture quality but this is what the filmmakers had in mind. Both films are deeply rich in detail as you'll see in these Blu-Ray editions.
