The Bingham Brothers Return! I got a call from Diamond Dan and he was going to be wrestling Hoss in King, North Carolina and he wanted his brother Bud and I to video tape it for him. So asked the obvious question, where the hell is King, North Carolina? Well, he was not really sure but Bud and I followed him anyway. The independent show was going to be in a really redneck bar. Think a wrestling ring in Jess Helms asshole and you get the idea. There on the wall was the stuffed head of a long horn cow and right next to it was a dirty bar with about fifty people there to watch wrestling. It turned out that the Bingham Brothers were the promoters of this show and forty-eight of the people there were related to them. We set up the camera on a tripod and were ready for action. There was plenty of that right around the corner and not what we had bargained for. There was a tag match with the Brothers Bingham verse the hated Rose Brothers. The Rose Brothers had been wrestling around these parts for many years and I think they did wrestle in the old IWA for a while. Needless to say, these guys were really tough and knew what they were doing. Well, scratch that knew what they were doing part. The crowd was very scary because all these folks thought that wrestling was a real life and death struggle and as I said this crowd was made up of uncles, aunts, cousins and second cousins of the Bingham's. These people cheered like crazy the whole match. But little did they know, they were going to be in for. The Bingham's decided that they were going to juice for the first time in front of the home folks but they made one big error. They were scared to cut themselves so they handed the blade to the Rose Brothers to do it for them. Not a great idea but I guess I didn't really need to say that? The match spilled out on the ring floor and one of the Rose Brothers reached down and ham hocked this guy's forehead wide open. The Bingham popped his head right up and the blood just shot out everywhere. I found out later, that when you juice you should keep your head down for awhile to get your bearings and popping up is the wrong thing to do. Man, was it the wrong thing to do! This guy must have taken fifty aspirin to thin out his blood because he splashed all over the place. And then the Bingham passed out on the floor. The other two guys in the ring went for the quick three count and the match was over. Well, the match may have been over but the real show was now starting. Suddenly, the whole Bingham Family hit the ringside trying to save him! They were lead by the guy's mother yelling and crying that her son was dying! About thirty people hit the ringside yelling and crying! It was a mad house! As a group they picked up the Bingham over their heads and carried him to the backroom for emergency care. The mother had a towel around his head and blood was smearing all over her and the Manson family the guy was like a dead carp, flopping around in their arms. It was great. After the Family left ringside there was a brief intermission. Man, they needed a break, we all did. Then this old guy pushed a mop bucket to the ring and began to mop up all the pieces of Bingham splashed all over the place. There was blood in pools all over the floor on both sides of the ringside. Blood was on the ring apron, all over the ring and hanging from the ring ropes. And the clean up guy was so bored about the whole thing that it was really shocking to watch. The referee used a towel to get the blood off the ropes and he at least acted like he cared about what he was doing. I guess it was just another day in King. North Carolina for these people. It still shocks me to this day. Dan and Hoss had a solid match with Dan going over with The Kerry Von Erich/ Ric Flair backslide finish. But I really just remember the Bingham Brothers match. Can you blame me? And we got it all on video tape.
