On
Saturday morning, September 8, 1958, WABC TV Ch. 7 in NYC debuted
"The Popcorn Theater" set against the backdrop of a traveling circus.
The show's
resident buffoon "Popo The Clown" engaged his visitors in comedy skits,
songs, stories, hobbies, informational segments, magic tricks and
interviews with guest personalities between the reruns of old movie
cartoons, comedies, westerns, serials and circus films.
"Popo"
continued to entertain and inform visitors to his "Popcorn Theater"
until WABC closed down the circus for good on Saturday, December 1,
1958.
The name
of the entertainer who played "Popo The Clown" remains a mystery.
