Gather round the screen and gaze into the past as your pal Billy Ingram, otherwise known as the Old Crypt Keeper, takes you on a journey back to the 1989 Seiniger Christmas Party, an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza!
The catered affair started right after work on the last day before the holiday break, December 21st, held in a swank restaurant just down the block from Seiniger's Third Street studio. As our heart-warming but cautionary holiday tale opens, Brad Hochberg, his lovely wife Debbie, myself and Dave Christiansen stroll down the avenue as Dave waxes philosophical. Brad may seem a bit perturbed but I assure you that was his normal way of relating to me. Let's face it, we all spent too much time together, it's a wonder no one was killed. At the party we run into Tony's lovely, super-efficient assistant Lisa ???? who planned the party, she's joking with Stephanie. What a pleasure it was to work with Lisa, I don't think I ever heard a cross word from her and she had one of the toughest jobs in the company - keeping Tony happy. When Tony sneezed the building came down with mononucleosis so her role was crucial to all of us. It was never the same after she left because she brought so much joy to the place. Everything she touched turned to platinum, it seemed.VP Mike Kaiser wanders briefly in and out, ever the gentleman. Brad shakes hands with Mark Estrada and Tony Seiniger can be seen waving, still working the phones. Next, I rudely interrupt art directors Clive Baillie (who I simultaneously manage to insult), Adrienne (Graves) Burke and Helene Steele who, I suspect, is trying to talk Clive into starting his own company. Don't do it, Clive, you'll be making a big mistake! A pre-Baillie-ed Dawn Teitelbaum is being sweet as ever and we see ???, that little vixen that lived with Olga Kaljakan and her daughter. She worked as an art assistant. I intrude on Joe Quinn, Maren Moebius and Lisa as they are enjoying a bite to eat so Maren has to remind me of my manners. There's Tonya, she worked as a photo editor and was loads of fun, quick with the pics. Finally, we see Clive's assistant Lagi who couldn't stand me for whatever reason. He was a great guy, though. I'm sure he's been deported by now. Exasperated receptionist Meredith gets the last word for now. I don't think she stayed long with the company, she had a tough job, Seiniger went through a number of receptionists before Lisa Marie Barry came along and straightened the place out.
Lagi and Mark entertain us with their antics before Mathew Cohen re-introduces us to Michele ??? who was receptionist for a while in '89, I think. Brad's peeved at me again - geez, I was a real jerk, apparently. Guess what Brad? I'm actually starring in a film this year where I play a maniacal, drunken Primitive Southern Baptist preacher named Reverend Ray. So you were right! There's Mark and his wife again and I think I manage to piss her off too! John Barry gives us the grand tour of the top of his head before I pass the camera off to one of the young ladies. We encounter Mariko Van Kampen who is dressed to the nines, note how her daughter flees in terror at the sight of me. There's Sarah Olson, Dean Blagg, Kevin Williamson, Cary Callahan and Billy Manger, then the camera pans to art director Henry Lehn. I remember running into Henry at a club one night and he was amazed that I came up to speak to him because he thought I hated him. We just didn't gel working together, my fault, it happens. Nice guy, very talented. The last person seen I loved, Trish St. Charles worked in accounting. You can bet I remembered her name every Thursday afternoon when I went down to pick up my check - early! I was crazy about that gal, she always had a withering glance and a harsh word for everyone. All richly deserved I can assure you..
This is where events take a turn for the worse - Tony, Joe, and myself start singing songs we don't know the lyrics to. Mariko, who is actually a talented, classically trained operatic singer, performs a rousing number but it fails to make it on to the tape. What a shame - my caterwauling is preserved for posterity but someone who can actually sing gets missed! You can tell by the applause it was very well received. I've since learned to control my singing voice - I keep my mouth shut. The lovely and talented Susan Roskens can be seen standing next to Clive. Around this time Tony's business expanded and the accounting department had to be relocated to a storefront further down 3rd Street. Susan Roskens, an artist, also worked down there having been banished from our Garden of Eden by Tony for some reason or another. That didn't stop her from joining Tony and I at the piano for the worst version of 'There's No Business Like Show Business' ever, thanks once again to my screeching. Why the crowd didn't go running out into the traffic I'll never know. Fortunately someone had the good sense to shut off the camera, thus ending out trip back in time. All of this singing must have inspired Lisa because the next year's party was a karaoke affair. Maybe one day she'll post the video of that party, I'm tapped out. Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah!
