Betty White on Don Rickles“You know, every night when I go out on stage, there's always one nagging fear in the back of my mind. I'm always afraid that somewhere out there, there is one person in the audience that I'm not going to offend!” - Don Rickles Don Rickles did a guest star turn on ‘Hot in Cleveland’ so the stars of that sitcom, the last good TV comedy I’ve seen, talk about what the famed insult comic and Las Vegas headliner was like when the cameras were not rolling. This is what Betty White says about working with Don Rickles: “I’ve known him for years, we’ve been friends for years but the first time I worked with him was, we did the movie version of ‘Dennis the Menace.’ And he would start the day, in the morning, instead of saying ‘Good morning’ to me he’d say ‘I hate animals!’” Jane Leeves, that’s not her real accent in case you’re wondering, said, “To be on the set with some of the legends that pass though these, you know, this set of our is amazing.” True when you consider some of the amazing guest stars including Bob Newhart, Carl Reiner, Susan Lucci (my fave episodes), to name a few. Not to mention Georgia Engel, who appeared with Betty White on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ three decades earlier. In 1976, Don Rickles enjoyed a two-year run starring in his own sitcom, ‘C.P.O. Sharkey.’ Sure, he made plenty of talk show appearance and was featured in many movies, including ‘Casino,’ Las Vegas was where he performed most often. In 1998, clad in a bathrobe over his tuxedo shirt and bow tie, but no pants, in his dressing room at the Desert Inn Rickles declared, “Vegas is my roots. I wouldn’t be coming if they didn’t want me here.”

Rickles on LAS VEGAS: “The thing I love about Vegas is that it's a melting pot. It's like working Ellis Island.”
