CAPTAIN Z-ROBy Billy Ingram This sci-fi kiddie series began as a 15-minute local program airing on KRON-TV in San Francisco and KTTV in Los Angeles, from November 1951 through 1953. There were 51 episodes. The concept: each week Captain Z-ro in his secret laboratory determines that an event is unfolding in the past that will change history so he and his pal Jet travel back in time to correct the problem. Roy Steffens starred as Captain Z-Ro with Bruce Haynes as Jet, they are joined on occasion by their assistant Tetro and Captain Z-ro's mechanical creation Roger The Robot. This San Francisco based production was similar in nature to other TV sci-fi programs in syndication in the fifties like Space Patrol, Men Into Space, Captain Video and his Video Rangers, Tales of Tomorrow, and Commando Cody: Sky Marshal of the Universe. After the initial run Captain Z-ro returned as a syndicated half hour on December 18, 1955 with original episodes airing until June 10, 1956. Reruns of the 26 episodes continued in syndication until 1960, distributed by the Atlas Television Corporation. The plot of the third syndicated episode: Captain Z-ro has to make some quick decisions when it appears what history remembers of Marco Polo's adventures is about to drastically change for the worse. Each show began with the announcer saying, "Captain Z-ro! Research explorer in time and space! Somewhere in a remote uncharted region of a planet called Earth stands the laboratory of Captain Z-Ro. In this secret location, known only to a few in the outside world, Captain Z-Ro and his associates experiment in time and space to learn from the past - to plan for the future."
