The hottest toys during the 1994 holiday shopping season were the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers action figures, QVC alone sold $1.9 million worth of Power Rangers toys in just two hours. Also big that year: The Secret Sender (kids version of the Palm Pilot) and Tiger 2XL Robot. It was the year video games got more sophisticated and more bountiful at Christmastime. Nintendo proclaimed 1994 to be ‘The year of the cartridge,’ While Sega Mega Drive/Genesis remained the best-selling home console, the year's best-selling video game console overall was Game Boy. Super Mario All-Stars, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy VI, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Doom II, were some of the best-selling sequels released that year while new titles like Daytona USA, Ace Driver, Alpine Racer and Tekken joined the ranks.
Odd, but there was only one Christmas themed episode of The Price is Right that year, airing on December 23rd. This is the broadcast from WRAL Raleigh, NC.
Perry Como starred in another holiday special, a decades long tradition, where he situated the show in another country, this time it was Perry Como's Irish Christmas. This was the last of Como’s yuletide special, in digital formats it’s known as Perry Como’s Christmas Concert. The crooner passed away in 2001.
