3 best movies about sports betting

The connotation of sports betting has seen a drastic change. In the 1980s, sports betting would have conjured images of seedy characters smoking cigarettes and roaming from pool hall to pool hall. However, nowadays it would probably evoke images of people making millions through Betfair Casino Promo Code from the safety of their homes and computers.

1- Casino
Casino is an American epic crime film that is based on the life story of  Frank Rosenthal, a professional sports bettor who oversaw the casino and hotel operations at the Tangiers Casino in Las Vegas during the 1970s. In this film, director Martin Scorsese has tried to explore organized crime's involvement in Las Vegas through the main character Sam "Ace" Rothstein.

Ace is portrayed as an intelligent and ethical oddsmaker whose abilities get noticed by prominent organized crime families who let him run their Vegas casinos. Nicky is another powerful character in the movie who wants to expand his empire of riches. To complicate the lives of these two characters, there is Ginger, a shrewd hustler, who marries Sam for security.

In the movie, Scorsese has shown sports betting as a deviant activity which is very different from how it is viewed in today's world. Sports betting is getting legalized in many countries and its odds are now featured on several reputable news and sports channels like CNN and ESPN etc.

2- The Color of Money
The Color of Money is an American drama film, starring Paul Newman and Tom Cruise as the main characters. Paul Newman plays the character Eddie who is a former pool hustler intending to make a comeback to the game. He meets a young, charismatic pool player Vincent Lauria (played by Tom Cruise) and they form a partnership.
Eddie teaches his pupil many things about the game, but they eventually split up due to Vincent's showboating. Both characters cross paths with each other again and this time they face each other as opponents.

In this movie, director Martin Scorsese has given a fascinating portrayal of the psychology of bettors. The acting of Paul Newman and Tom Cruise also greatly elevated the ranking of this film.

3- Eight Men Out
Eight Men Out is a sports drama film about the MLB's Black Sox scandal, in which eight Chicago White Sox players received lifetime bans after it was found that they conspired with gamblers. In the 1919 World Series, Chicago White Sox was considered as heavy favorites but they intentionally threw the series and lost in 8 games.

Interestingly, this movie doesn't place all the blame on the players, rather the Chicago White Sox owner Charles Comiskey is the subject of much of the criticism for treating his players poorly. The White Sox players are shown as victims of powerful forces and are treated as sympathetic figures. The film has also tried to show that bookmakers will continue to negatively influence sporting events if they are not legally licensed.
