One word can get your Instacart groceries delivered more quickly.
By Billy Ingram
Like you, I've read about long delays getting groceries delivered through Instacart and other shopping services but that hasn't been my experience. I receive a text from my shopper within minutes of placing an order and have my stuff within the hour.
The secret is, in a word, Tip!
Instacart works like Uber. When you order through Harris Teeter, Costco, Fresh Market or any other participating grocery (like Total Wine), Instacart dispatches one of their freelance stringers who drive (in their own car) to the store, fulfill your order, drive it out to you, then wait for another opportunity to do it for someone else.
The Instacart suggested gratuity is around $1.50, or 5% of your order total. That's pitiful considering what these delivery drivers have to deal with. I tip around $10, or 20% of my typical order, it's well worth it.
Because mobile shoppers can see how much the tip is before committing, guess who jumps to the front of the line? You'd tip your waiter/waitress 20%, right?
