DVD REVIEW
Manswers on DVD
Best of Manswers: The Season One Top 25 Manswers

How can you tell if a hooker is a cop? What's the best way to defend yourself in a bar fight? How can you best survive a plummeting elevator? Which is the most dangerous wild animal? Can taking a dump actually kill you? Are there ways to get drunk faster? How small a bikini can a girl wear legally? Will the 'touch of death' really kill a man?

These and other hot button topics are explored in this 'best of' collection of Manswers, a scintillating series chock full of almost useful information - a sexed-up soup for the Joe Sixpack soul.

This is a DVD for guys - unabashedly, unapologetically straight guys - who enjoy gazing at gorgeous, surgically enhanced babes clad in the skimpiest possible outfits, their barely bound breasts offered up like Thanksgiving dinner in a Norman Rockwell painting.

Originally airing on Spike TV, Manswers - The Best of Season One is wall to wall fun that merrily zips along at a whirlwind pace, giving you little time to catch your breath or even engage the brain. Perfect!

STUFF
Snagfilms.com is a new site that allows you to watch full length documentaries online - for free. including such hits as Super Size Me.

There's a Little Rascals 'Complete' DVD set coming before the holidays with all of the shorts produced by Hal Roach until 1938 - in other words, pretty much all of the good ones. There will be bonus features and a collector's booklet included.

In this interview with Entertainment Weekly, comics legend Alan Moore talks about his favorite TV shows.

SATURDAY MORNING
The mid-sixties' Hanna-Barbera Saturday morning shows thrilled me no end when I was a wee lad so why not relive some of that Saturday magic thanks to You Tube? The music, the sound effects, the crazy character designs all combined to create some mad weekend fun.

The Impossibles, a silly super hero rock group, was one of my faves. Here's the opening:

Next a bumper that ran between the cartoon segments:

And now the groovy end theme:

CAN YOU HELP?
Wilma Tryka writes: "I hope someone can help me with a recurring 'memory.'

"I remember watching
Here's Geraldine with Jim Stewart in the Chicago area venue of children's broadcasting. I believe he used to sing a song (I don't know the exact title) that reflected a sort of conversation between a father and child and one stanza went something like this:

LOOK THERE DADDY, DO YOU SEE
THERE'S A HORSE IN STRIPED PAJAMAS

NO - THAT'S NOT WHAT IT IS AT ALL
THAT'S AN ANIMAL PEOPLE CALL A "ZEBRA"

I SEE -
BUT IT STILL LOOKS LIKE A HORSE IN STRIPED PAJAMAS TO ME!

"If there's anyone who can furnish the lyrics for me or can tell me where to find them, I would be most appreciative (I want to teach them to my grandson). I still remember the tune. THANKS."

UPDATE: According to Kevin Butler this song also aired on Captain Kangaroo.

Heidi Fleiss: The Would-Be Madam of Crystal
Heidi FleissThis is another of HBO's sizzling summer documentary series and another must-see program, a riveting behind the scenes look at one of America's most notorious personalities and a fascinating peek inside the mind of a freaked out nut case wandering the desert picking up rocks in her vain attempt to open a stud farm for over sexed women in a small community in Nevada where prostitute is legal and folks live a simple life with little use for a haggard LA castoff.

A few of my married acquaintances in LA were more than a bit shocked and concerned when Heidi Fleiss was arrested for running a prostitution ring some years back, I suspected they were johns and fearful of being busted. For some reason she decided not to rat out her former clients and instead took the advice of Roseanne Barr to open a legal brothel in Nevada. Her high tech bordello would be a stud ranch for horny women, which sorta kinda makes sense except it seems to me that she would have an inventory problem - men can't have sex as many times a day as the ladies can, for obvious reasons.

This drug crazed maniac is still making news having been busted recently in her new hometown for unlawful use of methamphetamine and possession of the painkiller hydrocodone without a prescription, which comes as no surprise when you see how glassy eyed and tweaked she is in this film, talking constantly about meth in numerous 'I don't do crystal anymore' rants. Apparently it was lost on the once and future madam how hideously ironic it was that she moved to a town called Crystal.

This gem is produced and directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato for World of Wonder, creators of such acclaimed documentaries as Eyes of Tammy Faye, Showdog Moms & Dads, and a show I participated in The Christmas Special Christmas Special, all highly recommended.

Heidi Fleiss has stated publicly that she won't watch this show, she's convinced she'll come across as a maniac. And she does. It sure makes for great TV viewing, no question.

Heidi Fleiss: The Would-Be Madam of Crystal airs Monday, July 21 @ 9pm on HBO.

COMING TO FOX
The Gong ShowCan the variety show make a comeback? We'll see when Ozzy Osbourne and family get their own musical comedy series this September. My advice - just air reruns of The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour.

Also on Fox this fall - a new sitcom called Do Not Disturb set in a New York City hotel with Reno 911's Niecy Nash, for my money one of the most watchable performers working in TV today. Word is the show's a dog, which makes it a perfect match for lead in 'Til Death. Meanwhile the stiflingly unfunny Mad TV returns for a 14th season.
