Rock - Season 2 The Emmy winning second season of 30 Rock comes to DVD and it's one hilarious, wild romp. 30 Rock is a bit over the top, way too silly at times, but that's part of the schtick, and somehow it works. The show lacks a grounded compass, to be sure, plotlines swing wildly in odd directions but when it clicks - and it does most of the time - it's ravenously funny. Tina Fey has shown the world that, as writer, producer and star of this show, she's the new up and coming queen of television. Fresh, original, off beat - 30 Rock may have rescued the sitcom format, it surely will change the nature of TV comedy for the better. No wonder so many people are calling ratings challenged 30 Rock the best show on television. (It's pretty rare for a genuinely funny, live action network sitcom to become a ratings hit, in the last 10 years I can think of three - Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Two and a Half Men.) I can't believe how good Alec Baldwin is on this show, this is the only time I've ever enjoyed him in any project other than Glangarry Glen Ross. He's such a meatball but then so is his character. The casting is brilliant at every turn - besides the finely tuned regular cast, Elaine Stritch appears as Jack's mother, Buck Henry as Liz's father, and Tim Conway delivers an award-wining performance as a has been comic. Other guest stars include Rip Torn as Jack's boss, Brian Dennehy as the Union leader, Dean Winters as Liz's love interest, Sherri Shepperd as Tracy Jordan's wife, Steve Buscemi as a shady private eye, Edie Falco as Jack's girlfriend - it's a joy to discover who will turn up next in this farcical circus. All 15 episodes of the second season come on two discs in an austere package, there are some super fab extras to make up for the somewhat shortened season. Ever wonder what it's like to be at a table read of a sitcom script? You'll find out, along with deleted scenes, commentaries, a cast/crew conference moderated by Brian Williams, a look backstage when Tina Fey hosted SNL, and a 30 Rock live performance at the Upright Citizens Brigade. Season 2 is somewhat superior to the first so if you were to buy one volume of 30 Rock this is the DVD collection to get. Here are some clips in Quicktime format: Product Description: Relive the second season of the Primetime Emmy® Award-winning comedy 30 Rock, the show that the guy who writes stuff on DVD boxes calls “my current assignment” and that Gillian Flynn of Entertainment Weekly has named “simply the best TV.” Created by Golden Globe® and SAG Award winner Tina Fey, 30 Rock features Fey (as TV writer Liz Lemon), Golden Globe® and SAG Award winner Alec Baldwin (as corporate executive Jack Donaghy), Tracy Morgan and Jane Krakowski (as Lemon’s unpredictable stars, Tracy Jordan and Jenna Maroney) and Jack McBrayer (as the naive NBC page Kenneth Parcell). Co-workers and friends, they are all trying to balance work and life, with the inevitable result of failed relationships, disastrous parties, at-work drunkenness, hard-core coffee addiction, world-class sandwich eating and occasional attempts to chop down Christmas trees. Join in the behind-the-scenes fun with lots of exclusive content and all fifteen episodes of the acclaimed second season of 30 Rock from executive producer Lorne Michaels. Actors: Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Scott Adsit,
Will Arnett
