and Sisters - The Complete Second Season
I wasn't sure I was going to stick with this one but I gave this series the benefit of the doubt; after the first episode of season one I was fully invested. From the product description: Enter the fascinating world of the Walkers and explore what is means to be an American family in the 21st century. Though they live very different and conflicting lives the Walkers find unity under the family roof. Relationships bend but never break as they strive to find their own identities and embrace each other's differences. Calista Flockhart Sally Field Rachel Griffiths and Ron Rifkin lead a stellar cast in ABC s critically-acclaimed hit Brothers & Sisters. If there was any question as to whether season 2 would live up to the high standards of the first, that was put to rest early. Year two continues the superb high tension drama about a family of troubled individuals caught up in life's inevitable pitfalls. Sally Field as the Walker family matriarch won an Emmy for both seasons and with good reason, her performance is a miracle. She never hits a sour note which is remarkable given the volatile nature of her character This mom's no goody two shoes, Gidget-type. This lady sports a nasty, not so well hidden passive aggressive streak behind that smile. Rob Lowe, Rachel Griffiths, Calista Flockhart, Ron Rifkin, and Emily Vancamp all sparkle, a wonderful ensemble of masterful actors paired with superior scripts makes for compelling viewing. Brothers and Sisters is a character driven storyline that can only work if you care about the people and their entanglements - here you will. This is a soap opera in the best sense of the phrase but without the Desperate Housewives / Dynasty overkill, pushing those emotional buttons without breaking out the jackhammer. You won't mind being manipulated when the characters and situations are intriguing enough, if the actors are up to the challenge. And they definitely are in this case. The background music is unfortunately bothersome at times, too obviously acting as a laugh track. Other than that more or less minor distraction Brothers and Sisters soars; romantic without being maudlin, they even handle the gay characters without the usual pandering. Also included with this DVD collection: recipe cards from season 2, bloopers,
audio commentaries, a look at the set designer, deleted scenes and more.
