Twin
Peaks - The Definitive Gold Box Edition (The Complete Series)
The ultimate
cult TV show of the 1990s arrives in an spectacular DVD collection that
has David Lynch fans buzzing. The first season of Twin Peaks is nothing short of amazing, I was astonished at how much I remembered from watching the initial broadcasts. The show was a phenomenon, so popular in 1990 that nightclubs all over L.A. stopped the music Thursday nights at 9:00 to put Twin Peaks on - and the places would be packed. These were people that otherwise despised television, myself included, but Twin Peaks was just so weird - so David Lynch - that everyone was talking about it. Just hearing the theme song again instantly rocked me back to that time and place. There were so many scenes that I remembered bits and pieces of - I probably didn't appreciate at the time how memorable the show would become. The first episode of the second season of Twin Peaks in particular was one of the most anticipated TV programs of the 1990s as season one (which ran only 7 episodes plus the pilot) ended with the main character, Agent Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), shot and dying in his hotel room. Happily, that first episode (and a few that followed) featured the great character actor Hank Worden (that tall, skinny guy from so many John Wayne movies) in his last role as the room service waiter. He's one of many quirky supporting players that turn up, along with Michael Parks (Then Came Bronson), Piper Laurie (Carrie), Royal Dano (he provided the voice for Abraham Lincoln in Walt Disney's Hall of Presidents), Miguel Ferrer and Van Dyke Parks. I dropped out of the Twin Peaks cult after the third show of the second season; my friends who continued watching swore that it was still good but I thought the program was just being obtuse for the sake of being bizarre. This was my first opportunity to discover for myself what the rest of season 2 was all about. Was it high comedy or low drama? Hell if I know, but without Twin Peaks would we have seen Carnivale or Deadwood? The influence is undeniable - Twin Peaks' dream-like, stream of consciousness filmmaking was unlike anything seen on television before. Viewers will have the option of enjoying the episodes in either new 5.1 Surround Sound or the original 2.0 network television audio. Is it extras you want? Creators David Lynch and Mark Frost and members of the cast (Kyle MacLachlan, Joan Chen, Piper Laurie, Ray Wise, Sheryl Lee, Kenneth Welsh, Maedchen Amick, Miguel Ferrer among others) and crew came together to participate in this amazing, definitive collection. Just look
at these amazing DVD features: Just so you know, the commentaries and extras (other than the Log Lady intros) from the previous seasons 1 & 2 collections are not included here. From the press release: "Thought to have been lost forever, a selection of deleted scenes has been unearthed for this collection and approved by David Lynch, offering viewers additional clues and background on some of their favorite characters and locations in the series. The collection showcases the phenomenon that was TWIN PEAKS with such archival nuggets as the "Saturday Night Live" opening monologue and "Twin Peaks" sketch featuring Kyle MacLachlan, the "Falling" music video featuring Julee Cruise, the Richard Beymer behind-the-scenes photo gallery, original network promo spots and many more rare gems!" "Got the picture?" "I even got the frame." TV on DVD Reviews: FEATURED TV DVDs:
Martin Milner (Tod Stiles) and George Maharis (Buz Murdock) star in this classic television drama about a couple of young guys who set out to see America in a brand new 1961 Corvette drop top. What makes this show truly unique is that it was filmed in a different U.S. city each week, giving us a stark glance at what living in America looked like in 1960. It was a vastly different landscape, people lived a lot closer to the dirt back then. (I'll bet that decrepit New Orleans dock in episode three is a multi-million dollar condo development if it wasn't washed away by the levy failure.) No television show had ever attempted anything on this grand a scale before, the technology necessary to make mobile TV production a practical enterprise had just been made available. Read the

The last of the classic variety shows and one of the finest TV programs of all time, The Muppet Show Season 2 is an unrestrained delight from start to finish. This amazing production lit up the screens when it debuted in 1976 and the second season may be the best of the series' run. The sing-alongable theme song. The incredible guest stars. The crazy costumes. Pigs in space. The crabby guys in the balcony. The love / hate relationship between Piggy and Kermit. All here to relive or experience for the first time. If you are encountering The Muppet Show for the first time, what a treat you're in for; if you watched the show as a youngster you may find yourself uncontrollably singing along with the bizarrely choreographed Tin Pan Alley tunes. No question, this is Muppet-mania at its peak, before the many hit movies and Muppets on Ice diluted the product. How wonderful to see the delightful Edgar Bergen & Charlie McCarthy and Miss Piggy trading barbs that could have come right out of radio. (In fact, some of the jokes do harken from Bergen's radio days.) Read the entire review of The Muppet Show on DVD FEATURED TV DVDs:

The Wild, Wild West is stylish, colorful and just campy enough to stay interesting, undeniably one of the most exciting and offbeat television shows of the 1960s, a true classic that stands the test of time. The pace of year 3 is a little slower than the previous
2. The production was revamped slightly for year 3 and has a grittier,
more realistic feel to it than in earlier seasons without sacrificing
too much of the whimsy. For year 3, Secret Service agents Jim West
and Artemus Gordon are armed with an new arsenal of nifty but unlikely
high tech gadgets to spirit them out of danger. They also sport some
snazzy new outfits for romancing the ladies and generally looking
cool as they knock heads and ride off triumphantly.
