Mod Squad on DVDThe Mod Squad - Season 1, Volume 1

Starring Michael Cole, Peggy Lipton, and Clarence Williams III as hip, young cops, The Mod Squad aired on ABC from September 24, 1968 until August 23, 1973 and had the home audience hooked from the start with one of the greatest openings a TV program ever had.

Wildly anachronistic and overly dramatic to be sure, this new collection includes the first 13 episodes, some of the best of the series' run.

As refreshing to watch today as it was then, The Mod Squad is a clever Aaron Spelling production shot mostly on locations in and around los Angeles in 1968 with loads of familiar TV supporting players that popped up frequently on these shows during TV's bronze era. I'm sure folks who lived in Los Angeles at the time will love seeing long gone landmarks and pristine, undeveloped coastline.

There are also some insightful interviews with Peggy Lipton and Michael Cole included - I just wish they would present these talks straight, without the show clips and repeating the opening theme ad nauseam. There needs to be a new model for these DVD features - why not just do a straight up interviews with the questions heard from off camera? Why the need to pad these talks with scenes from the shows we've just watched or will be watching? It dilutes the experience and cheapens the product.

The picture clarity is first rate, the colors pop - and there was a lot of color in the mid-sixties shows since color TV sets were just coming into vogue. The sound is bright and crisp and it all comes in an austere, affordable package. Overall a fine edition that's attracting rave reviews from fans and casual viewers alike.

DID YOU KNOW:
There were 123 episodes total of The Mod Squad.

The Return of Mod Squad, a TV reunion movie, aired on ABC May 18, 1979.

Product Description:
Meet Pete, Linc and Julie: The Mod Squad. This trio consisted of rich, long-haired Pete Cochran, Lincoln "Linc" Hayes from the tough streets of inner city Los Angeles, and beautiful flower child Julie Barnes, a runaway from San Francisco. They’re recruited by police captain Adam Greer (Tiger Andrews) for a covert unit that will help bridge the generation gap. Each week these three cops with love beads wrestled with criminals – and their own consciences. They may have been the "fuzz," but they were determined to never compromise their values.

The Mod Squad!
