Sarah Silverman has turned the sitcom on its ear with this wickedly funny Comedy Central program. I rolled with laughter as she skewered the homeless, gays, religion, AIDS, cops, children pageants, lesbians, dogs, leukemia patients, disabled people, veterans, God, and just about everyone in sight. It's one of those shows you'll either love or hate, it's too over the top and self indulgent to be taken lightly. The critics loved it. Amazon.com called the series, "An offensive, filthy-mouthed treasure" and indeed it is. Entertainment Weekly writes, "She tilts her impish face toward the camera, widens her huge brown eyes, and then — in the tiniest of little-girl voices — unleashes a torrent of vicious and uproarious filth." Variety cracked, "Although Silverman's shtick won't be everyone's overcaffeinated cup of tea, the series seems destined to gain a well-deserved cult following and may be the brightest addition to Comedy Central's primetime roster since South Park." Here are some choice quotes from the show: "If we can put a man on the moon, we can put a man with AIDS on the moon. And then some day, we can put everyone with AIDS on the moon." Or how about this charming moment where Sarah was giving a pep talk to a little girl: "Let me tell you a little story about about a time I gave up. About ten years ago I got pregnant and everyone around me wanted me to give up and have the baby. And for for about 8 1/2 months, I listened to them. Until finally, I worked up the courage to walk into that hospital and say 'get this thing out of me.' And let me tell you something, having an abortion is one of the hardest things anyone could ever do. It took hours. I had to physically push the fetus out of me. And when it came out it was crying and covering in this, like, gooky stuff. I didn't have the money to pay, so crawled out the window and I went home and watched In Living Color because that's was what was funny back then. Heather you have a choice. You can walk away and give birth to a failure that will haunt you for the rest of your life. Or you can go out there and have the abortion of your dreams. So what's it going to be?" Vulgar to the point of ridiculousness, outrageous and defiantly offensive in general, The Sarah Silverman Program is one hot new DVD release and I highly recommend it for those that enjoy their comedy on the brittle side.
