This second season volume follows Val's adventures as a Knight battling Mordred's New Dawn and the brutal Vikings. The series is a bit bolder than you'd expect from the Family Channel but it's all children-friendly and quite engrossing. I'm sure the kids today will love it and you yourself may be pleasantly surprised if you watched it as a child; overall it's a pleasing and seriously approached adaptation of the legendary comic strip. The series (which won the Humitas Prize for Children's Animation) featured an all-star voice lineup that included Robby Benson, Tim Curry, Noelle North, Samantha Eggar, Michael Horton, Alan Oppenheimer and Efrem Zimbalist Jr. among other notables. There were also Soundtrack CDs and video games based on this cartoon when the show was first broadcast. Bonuses with this DVD collection include: cast interviews, commentaries, storyboards, a detailed color booklet with episode guide and much more. Other King Feature heroes turned up around the same time and they are also set for DVD release - including Defenders of the Earth which featured Flash Gordon, who was created for comic strips in 1934 by Alex Raymond; The Phantom from creator Lee Falk; and Mandrake the Magician (with sidekick Lothar) which debuted in 1934, also the creation of Lee Falk.
