The family sitcom will always rule the television airwaves, it's a tried and true format that Americans never tire of - at least not for long. 8 Simple Rules (For Dating My Teenage Daughters) was one of the best sitcoms of the pack when it debuted in 2002, thanks in no small part to two TV icons - John Ritter (Three's Company) and Katey Sagal (Married With Children) - playing the leads. From the press release: "TV hall-of-famer John Ritter plays sportswriter Paul Hennessey, a father who lives by 8 Simple Rules, or better yet, one golden law: keep your hands off teenage daughters Bridget (Kaley Cuoco - "Charmed"), the boy-crazy one, and the moody and artistic Kerry (Amy Davidson - "Malcolm in the Middle")." There's no novel concept, no ground-breaking going on here, Ritter and Sagal play the parents of three kids, two of them teen girls that they desperately try to keep virginal and on the straight and narrow. Ritter and Sagal are a joy to watch together, they share a comic connection that clicks right away and catapults the familiar storylines along. This DVD collection contains the superior first season - sadly, Ritter passed away during production of season two. Look for the classic episode where Paul dreams he's on the set of Three's Company with guest Don Knotts turning up in a very funny cameo. Terry Bradshaw, Cybill Shepherd and Jason Priestly also come around as guests during season one. 8 Simple Rules delivers good wholesome family entertainment with plenty of laughs with some surprisingly effective heartwarming moments. There's also a blooper reel included as an extra that provides insight into the lightheartedness that obviously prevailed on the set. I can't imagine any fan of 8 Simple Rules not loving this deluxe edition, it's a real bargain at $17.99 if you order online now ($23.99 in stores). It's one of those DVDs you'll enjoy dropping the laser beam on again and again anytime you need a smile.
