and the Beast - The Final Season
During the mid-eighties, soap operas were huge on primetime TV, CBS launched Beauty and the Beast to compliment their Dallas / Falcon Crest blockbuster Friday night lineup. The show never really caught on in the ratings but did attract a loyal cult following and garnered much critical acclaim. After two years on Friday nights, the network moved the show to Wednesdays and retooled the production leading to this shortened season. For this season (1989-90), the network made a conscious decision to attract more male viewers so the romance took a back seat to more violent storylines. This was the season where series star Linda Hamilton left the series and the show suffers because of it; still many fans believe this was the best year. The season starts with a powerful two-part episode that turns the series on its heel, killing off the show's love interest and spirits along until the coming to a final resolution in the last episode. True fans of the show will want to complete the collection, feeling that even a lesser Beauty and the Beast is better than none. You get all 12 episodes including the 2-hour season premiere on 3 DVDs. Format: Box set, Color, DVD-Video, NTSC TV on DVD Reviews: |
