The IT Crowd : The Complete Season One A raunchier and funnier ‘Dilbert’ Before sharing my thoughts on the DVD set of the first series, my people call it season, of the hilarious britcom “The IT Crowd,” I would like to express my thanks for being welcomed into the TVparty family. I love classic TV shows and value the non-corporate sensibility of this site that allows me to fully express the TV Geek that I am. “The IT Crowd” is about two socially inept tech guys who support loads of people at a large corporation, and it is brilliant. Computer geeks discovered this exceptional show a few years ago, and I strongly encourage other fans of clever comedy writing and good slapstick to get a copy of the DVD set of first season of this show. People on both sides of a help desk phone line can relate to a tech. person asking “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” and having that solve the problem. Additionally, the frustration that techies and the people who they support is a very rich source of humor. I imagine that many techies would like to treat users as rudely as Roy the computer guy and many users would like to administer the “arse-pounding” that a user inflicts on Roy in the pilot episode. I predicate as well that viewers with even a moderate amount of computer savvy will enjoy the jokes about things such as voice-activated software, screensavers, and painfully slow downloads. Other hilarious plots that are crammed in the six episodes in the first season relate more generally to office life. We can all relate to an inept corporate head administering praise to high-profile departments while ignoring those who did the work. An episode in which a lie that an employee tells about a co-worker “haunts” him in a laugh-out-loud manner is also noteworthy. Those of you who share my intense love of this program and those of you who discover it through the DVD of the first season will be glad to learn that the DVD of the second season is being released in June. I will share now that this season is even better than the first. Please do share your thoughts regarding “The IT Crowd” as e-mail to tvdvdguy@gmail.com. TV on DVD Reviews: |
